                                   Algeria-backed Polizario’s

                                         Threat of Terror,

The international community has, finally, struck the last nail home into the coffin of the Polizario Front. But when the United Nations secretary Mr. Coffi Annan announced in his April 21st report about Western Sahara status that the UN can not imposse a solution to the conflict and that Morocco is to undertake direct negotiations with the different parties of the conflict, the Polizario Front  and their backers the Algerian army government went berserk in their denunciations of the outcome of intense deliberations and effort by the UN and peace-loving countries. There is every indication that these masters and torturers of refugees in disgraced Tindouf camps will, undoubtedly, stop at nothing to intimdate forces of peace in the region. Please visit the Moroccan Congress of the USA website for  live testimonies of ex-detainees in Tidouf camps, during a recent visit to the US Congress  and www.MoroccanSahara.net , www.WesternSahara.net  ( Moroccan Sahraoui Stories in Tindouf Camps) , www.FreeThemNow.org , www.washingtonmoroccanclub.org . Their hot-bloodedness ( the Polisario leadership gangs and their backers) bespeaks a readiness to commit mass-murder to quench the insatiable and despicable greed of a bunch of armed and dangerous war-lords, while all the while continuing to conspire to sabotage legitimacy and the constructive efforts of the international community, and denying human rights abuses and lying about their trade in Moroccan children with Cuba  and dismissing the US, France, Spain and the UN recent effort and action to resolve the dispute as a mere conspiracy against the Polisario and their backers. They have shamelessly disregarded  the enormous progress our southern provinces have undergone since the start of Morocco’s glorious Green March, and have brandished flags of terror and cast their shadow of evil and vengeance on the helpless inhabitants of the so-called “ controlled zones”.

Morocco, a coutry of polished diplomacy and political savoir-faire, has, all throughout the process, remained calm and composed and in full harmony with the wishes and recommendations of international law and the world community. But watch this: the Algerian paper “Alkhabar”, which is the the voice of the Algerian generals, published today April 24th, 06 an article entitled “ The Polizario refuses to dialogue with Morocco if it ( Morocco) refuses to hold a referendum: Moroccans demonstrating before the Moroccan Embassy in Madrid”, which reveals, abhorently so, the Algerian government’s crabby dealings with the international community and countries in the Mediterranean basin. This article accuses, so bluntly, in the name of the protesters, Spain’s premier Mr. Zapatero administration of conspiring with Morocco against the Sahraoui people, through, they claim, supporting Moroccan injustice and colonization in “Southern sahara”.  Spain’s official stand has, of recent, been clear and unequivocal, and has shown full support for Morocco vis-a-vis the claims of the separatists. Spain has learnt, in the wake of the terrible terrorist attacks  that Madrid witnessed a short while ago, that firmness against buds of future terror is the strong currency of the day, and that allowing these pawns to divide Spanish public opinion over so unsubstantial an issue while Spain has bigger issues to look into as a big country within the international community, will weaken Spain internally, around the mediterranean basin and doubtlessly internationally. Time now is for strong states and economies and cooperation. Many a good and powerful country has, in the course of its history, shrugged off a puny conflict but has, over the years, come to regret its attitude so bitterly, not realizing, before the damage is done, that what we may at the beginning consider a mere scratch will, if untreated, puss in, grow painful, attain a virus status and hack the whole body. The world community is one body, but viruses are numorous and teeming, and their pain, once throbbing and pounding, will spare no body part. That’s the lesson the world community has learnt in the post 9/11 era. Algeria-backed polisario is a virus and a significant threat to peace in the region and around the world. They are in search of the devil, and when they find him,who may actually happen to be very near-by, they will ally themselves with him and laugh in the faces of the sponsors of peace around the world.

But let me tell you one more thing about this “Alkhabar” article, the mouthpiece of the Algerian generals. It quotes, so defiantly, as though the voice was theirs, which it sure is, that the Sahraoui “ president” ( Polizario war-lord) Mohammed Abdel Aziz ( they failed to add Almurrakeshi, because he is from Marrakesh- Morocco) issued a warning  to hundreds of his supporters in the Spanish capital Madrid that if Morocco persists in blocking the independence of “Western Sahara”, the consequences may be a WAR “ the extent and victims and end of which we ignore” . The article continues by saying that the Polisario leader added that the continuation of injustice may cause an explosion , and that if Morocco resumes its resolve to defuse the decolonization process in “Western Sahara”  and the holding of a free and democratic referendum in accordance with international legitimacy and the UN resolutions, “ we are never going to yield, and we will never accept the status quo”. Well, the UN has just ordered Morocco to enter “ direct negotiations” with the parties in the conflict, which Morocco has supported even before the report, by granting the western provinces an enlarged autonomy with delegation of extensive powers to local populations and councils. The Polizario front, just like their Algerian policy-makers, are so fraught with contradictions and inconsistencies. Look: they ask for implementation of UN resolutions and recommendations while at the same time refusing them and making threats of a return to random armed conflict. See: here the Polisario’s representative to the UN, Mr. Albukhari Ahmed, turned down Mr.Koffi Annan’s call for direct negotiations, calling the proposal “ incoherent and absurd”. To any reasonable human being, Algeria-backed Polisario front’s approach to dispute-resolution rests, uncompromisingly, on the logic of pure manipulation and threats, dismissing the whole world community as “plotters” against the sahraoui people, and threatening to return to armed conflict and violence if it does not bend to their whims and wishes.

This is the pitiable manner in which  the Algerian junta projects her ills on one of the steadfast allies of the civilized world, by endeavoring, so failingly, to push the sore thorn deep into the abode of Morocco, they have aimed to distanciate themselves from the media’s focus on the flagrant debauchery in which they have, as dictators ,war-mongers, and trouble-raisers, found themselves, by giving their media outlets and poor majority a bone to gnaw at, to keep them preoccupied with claims over a land that has never been and will never be theirs or their Polisario’s. They have tried, so persistently, to divert the world community’s attention from the butcheries they have committed all over Algeria, crimes against innocent civilians, independent journalists, and human rights activists, whose only demands are that the army government be held  accountable to the Algerian citizens. The same paper “ Alkhabar” reported today the death and injury of ten people in Skikda province, casualties of  a terrorit attack on a bus transporting passengers from Tamalous to Sidi Mansour. I can only wonder how a country that is spending billions of dollars annually on armament is failing so abhorently to put an end to terrorist activities around Algeria!. Or, is it the Algerian army mafia settling scores with voices of dissent and blaming it on the Islamist terrorists? In many cases, undoubtedly so. Dictator governments have to be pressured to do serious work in the fight on terror and terrorists, a fight based on he premise that it is and has to be done for the protection of people and property from terrorist attacks, and absolutely not as an excuse to be used for the promotion of their self-interests and self-aggrandizement. If they fail to do this and according to these guidelines, the civilized world is losing the battle, and consequetly more terrorists will be produced and more deadly attacks will occur.

I conclude by saying Algeria has to take care of her own inner affairs first, clean up her mess and the mess of the army establishment, democratize her institutions, and open up on  human rights’ scandals and cooperate with her neighbors in the Mediterranean basin against real terror and poverty and frustration, in the hope of launching the Arab Maghreb on solid grounds and paving the way for friendly and business-oriented relations with all the nsighbors in the area and the international community.
